Ask HN: What does an office you would want to go back to look like?

3 点作者 heycesr将近 4 年前
Hey HN!
It's now clear that the transition to a hybrid workplace is happening and there's no return from it.
I was wondering, what would an office environment have to offer for you to actually prefer working from there rather than stay home?

It would be a short 10 minute walk or cycle away from my home. Secure, not accessible to the public, swipe card access through two doors. Secure network, employer supplied VPN to remote servers running apps. Dedicated high security network, physically separate from low security, In a building overlooking a park, sports oval or strip mall. With no car parking, except for a loading zone, dedicated trades parking and disabled parking. I don't want to work from home, but don't want to commute long distances or pay exorbitant parking fees to local councils.

It's not that clear. Plenty of companies are transitioning to full remote. My preferred office enviornment is staying at home.
Commute is time lost that the employer can never make up for, meanwhile the loss of team dynamics/culture from working remote IS something that can be improved.
Of course, the managers/HR need to actually do something about it and make initiatives to preserve such values, but it requires effort on their part.

There is nothing an office can offer me to want me to be there over working from home, or wherever else I choose to work.

The employer: humm... I have to rent the office but I can not find my employee there! Half of the time!
