Normally I'm a huge proponent of BSD and MIT licensed tech over GPL because I believe in the goodness of people to be generous and share (if for no other reason than enlightened self-interest). When it comes to a company like Google I don't have an assumption of goodness and generosity and I cannot help wondering if Fuchsia is meant to be a pathway to "proprietary but open source" displacing Linux in much the same way that "almost all of Chrome is open source" but there are some essential -- and evil! -- things in Chrome that are VERY closed source (and very invasive and unacceptable for anyone concerned about privacy). I'm hoping for the best but preparing for the worst -- and developing a new appreciation for GPL along the way.
