Coffee Meets Bagel requests government IDs to date now

7 点作者 jhabdas超过 3 年前
As if surveillance capitalism and track and trace wasn't bad enough, now even so-called "free" dating sites are joining in on the madness by forcing users to provide government-issued identification just to find a date down the street. Where does this end? Or has it just begun? And why are so many willing to give up their freedoms in exchange for a little temporary convenience?

Not that I like this, but I’m curious about their justification. If I had to guess, I’d bet they’d say that this cuts down significantly on fake profiles and user safety problems.<p>Would people choose to use a dating site that didn’t have ID requirements, but couldn’t flush away spam and fake users? Is there a better way to get rid of fake profiles?
