AMule 2.3.3

Well, this takes me back. I’ve probably spent hours staring at the download queue in eDonkey then Overlord and eMule. I might spin this up just for old time’s sake.

I had no idea this still exists, but congratulations to them on the release.

gonosztopi is the main developer, and he’s doing a really great job in keeping the software alive.<p>The introduction of CMake does not mean anything for users, but is a major feature.<p>Previously the different build systems were mixed and not integrated: autotools, xcode, vscode, shell scripts..<p>It should now be easier to maintain the code base.<p>Congrats!

Releases that go back 17 years, I admire longevity in open source!

This is the direction the web could have taken, but the venture funded ad giants grew platforms that engulfed all of publishing. The wrong focus for users, but great for making money for a select few.<p>A small p2p client like emule might provide a good alternative to RSS and Reddit if the only things shared are articles and comments. I&#x27;d love to see copy pasted HN articles with no paywall, distributed over P2P. Archive.is style. No Javascript nonsense. Text with minimal, clean markup. Fast and performant.<p>Cryptographically sign comments and share your interest graph - instant trust network and high signal social network.

What&#x27;s the difference between AMule compared to say torrents ? (I know about the latter but not about the former)

I... cannot even figure out how to download anything from SourceForge. (which also takes me back. But not really in a good way.)<p>The countdown goes to 0, and ... it downloads nothing.<p>I think I&#x27;m fine though.

I still use MLDonkey for really old comic books not available anywhere.

Nowadays I just use regular eMule using Wine, it works flawlessly.
