Apple facing class action lawsuits over MacBook M1 screen cracks

I'll confess I have extremely limited exposure to these kinds of legal briefs; I expected the Apple Support site stuff, but the inclusion of the reddit thread surprised me. Is it common for reddit threads to be referenced and distributed in legal complaints?

Are these screen cracking at a higher rate than the previous model with the Intel chips? It would be odd since the case and screen have not changed.
