Is the best way to get promoted while working under a self absorbed manager is to be so good that it looks bad on them not to recognize you?

A self-absorbed manager will eventually fail to deliver. Build a team, do great work and it will eventually become quite clear that you are the architect of that success.<p>If you then choose to leave, you will be ready to lead your own team.

No. They will simply take credit for your accomplishments.<p>Honestly your best move is always going to be to change jobs.
