"Once you know the term you start to see it everywhere. Perhaps most obvious is the notion of defunding the police, in which overwhelmingly wealthy, educated people who live in safe neighborhoods call for a policy that would leave lower-class people living in high-crime neighborhoods vulnerable."<p>I stopped reading right there. It is getting easier to spot disingenuous right wing talking points. The term "defund the police" of course got hijacked by these people as they do for every kind of left wing proposal.<p>There is a legitimate case that the police are overworked and asked to perform more and more as a method of cost cutting.<p>It is not a radical idea to explore asking the police to do less and instead allocate funds to social workers and other resources so that every problem is dealt with appropriately instead of with a mallet. The argument being that this mismatch is where a lot of social strife is coming from.<p>Do people like Bari ever discuss this? Nope her and her ilk just promote the slogan without appropriate context so that a certain percentage of the population drops support for things like Black Lives Matter. This is only going to lead to more problems down the road as the social fabric continues to crumble.
