Starlink’s new Dishy McFlatface is smaller and lighter, still costs $499

$500 is not much of a barrier to people with only viasat options.<p>My starlink has been noticeably better over the last few months. I don&#x27;t know if it&#x27;s more satellites or better software to avoid the few trees I have obstructing.<p>I&#x27;d guess they haven&#x27;t done much for mobile&#x2F;moving dishys with this, it&#x27;s probably all just cost reductions over the original design.

Factor in inflation and the price range of iPhone models and you see $499 is reasonable for what Starlink&#x27;s gateway device does in the techspace of under served unreachable areas. Would be interesting to measure that value to industrial farming machinery parts and servicing.

Would it be possible to repurpose this hardware to build a scanning 3D radar?

Please don&#x27;t support this Kessler-effect-inducing and astronomy-ruining nightmare. The latter is already happening, while the former might already be in its infancy.<p>This &quot;space littering&quot; has got to stop, if not outwardly globally banned, until such time as appropriate clean up techniques are developed, tested, and deployed.
