Responding to the original question, I would suggest that all learning is <i>just for me</i>, even when conducted in classroom (factory) settings. Whether you "need" it or not, that's what seems to be going on.
I don't have an answer to "would you pay for it?" which can work in general; for me, I pay for books and so forth, and am happy to pay for, e.g. online lectures. Truth is, at least as I see it, there's a towering price elasticity - steep curve in play. Paying to play (learn) for me is not a problem; have to acknowledge, however, that there are good people out there who don't have such luxury, which, it seems to me, creates a kind of disparity which needs to be addressed.
