Stanford physicists help create time crystals with quantum computers

This is way over my head. Why is this considered a new phase of matter? The physics equivalent of a fruit fly? What kind of stupid analogy is that? It sounds like a quantum version of a crystal oscillator.

If I understood correctly they didn't "create", but they "simulated" them in a quantum computer, is that right?

When did Stanford start publishing jibberish.
