So is the underlying detail that is not stated here is?
1. even though arxiv is preprint's, they have some ability to categorize things and in a sense allowing things to be categorized is a way of soft-filtering out stuff "they don't like"
https://arxiv.org/archive/astro-ph
2. astro-ph arxiv preprints are potentially considered better than either being uncategorized, or even worse, being put in some category that may be associated with crackpots?
So essentially the guys saying, hey I'm not a crackpot? I'm just having a hard time understanding what the context here is other than "I submitted my paper and said its astrophysics, and the category maintainers said no its not". I had no idea there was this sort of tempest in a teacup happening related to arxiv categories.. couldn't the paper just be "uncategorized" and its like, who cares?
