I am looking to buy a new monitor to use for my home setup. I do a lot of programming, and some gaming or movies. I read a bunch of Reddit/HN threads that are opinionated for high-res/ultrawide/high-refresh as ideal setups. I wanted to get an idea of the current consensus around this.
What would you recommend?

- Size: 27" to 34"
- Resolution: 4k, 3440x1400 or two x 2560x1440 monitors.
- Refresh-rate: 100hz+, absolutely not lower than 60hz
- Latency: as a small as possible, no greater than 5ms
- Ultrawide or not: my take is extra pixels + screen size is immersive but you get that also just by going up in res + monitor size.
I don't have 5k+ or 120hz+ monitors so I can't chime in on those.
If your programming has you managing a lot of apps and windows at once then I recommend 2 monitors.

I bought an ultrawide (WQHD 21:9 1440p 75Hz) monitor during lockdown, used for programming. It's very good but I picked a flat one and with hindsight I would pick a curved one instead as the corners are a tad far from my field of view.
I have a 34" WQHD with resolution 3440x1440. Using it with i3 where I typically have 3 columns is great. I have never used it for gaming or movies.
