Color me skeptical.
Here is a link for people who what to see what this actually looks/sounds like without installing an app.
https://racket.com/maguay
Seems more like Audio TikTok. Or maybe "Clubhouse Clips" or something. Which means, what, I sit there and listen to things and manually scroll clip after clip after clip?
Gut reaction:
It did not seem binge-snack-worthy at all.
I listened to a few... racks? Audio is hard. The segments I heard sound like they were recorded with sub-par mics -- earbud mics, laptop mics, etc, heavily band-passed, noise cancelled and digitally compressed. Trying to listen to them was like trying to listen zoom conferences as a mini podcast. Not Fun, at all. I found it tiring, very, very quickly. The content would have to be freaking extraordinary for me to spend more than a few minutes listening. I didn't.
My opinion is that for this to have even the remotest chance it must emphasize audio quality over everything, which is a problem because then it's not really a mobile app on the creation side. And, good audio creation is not easy. It hasn't had the same attention as the video side of the mobile experience.
Even assuming the audio problem got solved, I wonder what would attract the tastemakers... the 13-21 year olds. What would the equivalent of a TikTok dance be that would make any "rack" go viral. Why would teens be interested in this at all?
The lacking audio quality limits it to spoken word, no singing, no music. Which leaves... what? Stand-up comedy?
Dunno. Hard to see myself using this. My guess it will fill up with people trying to be stand up comedians.
I'm on Android anyway. So, whatever.
