In the first Chechen War, Russia took out the Chechen president with a missile guided by electronic warfare systems to the radio signature of the satellite phone he was using. [1] (Though the Russians probably got some help from the NSA for that.)<p>There are various mitigatioms but at the end of the day, anything with a radio transmitter in it is also a homing beacon.
