Weird logic. A 2013 iMac is “still reasonably fast for pretty much everything I do with it”, which means it’s not really fast for many things and slow for some things.
Also “My point is not that these machines are not generally faster”, which seems to imply it’s fast for more things they do with it (if it isn’t, or only marginally so, they should have made that argument)
How is that plateauing? And that ignores new functionality. The M1 Neural engine makes things possible that that 2013 iMac never realistically could.

I feel that way sometimes but we do get better. The iops & core counts are really high, it's stunning. Interconnects are far faster & getting wild.
Consumers have been living life under usb3 for a decade & it feels interminable but usb4 should really improve life & possibility again... If only there was a lower speed longer range spec for it, for like 5m. Or if we could get some affordable fiberoptic.

I think this is true based on a simple fact: I can reasonably use a computer from 2012 for my needs. In 2012 I probably wouldn't say that about a computer from 2002, and in 2002 I probably wouldn't say that about a computer from 1992.
