I noticed a lot of HNers using archive.md (or its other mirrors like archive.vn or archive.is) to get around soft paywalls on certain submitted news articles. However, none of these archive sites work anymore (or work sporadically), returning SSL errors or DNS errors. Does anyone know what happened?
Works for me. Do you have CloudFlare DNS?<p><a href="https://blog.archive.today/post/681415425930723328/%D0%BF%D1%96%D0%B4%D0%BA%D0%BB%D1%8E%D1%87%D0%B5%D0%BD%D0%BD%D1%8F-%D0%B4%D0%BB%D1%8F-%D1%86%D1%8C%D0%BE%D0%B3%D0%BE-%D1%81%D0%B0%D0%B9%D1%82%D1%83-%D0%BD%D0%B5-%D0%B7%D0%B0%D1%85%D0%B8%D1%89%D0%B5%D0%BD%D0%BE" rel="nofollow">https://blog.archive.today/post/681415425930723328/%D0%BF%D1...</a>
If you're using Cloudflare DNS, archive.is etc will fail to resolve.<p><a href="https://jarv.is/notes/cloudflare-dns-archive-is-blocked/" rel="nofollow">https://jarv.is/notes/cloudflare-dns-archive-is-blocked/</a>
IIRC the archive.* have a philosophical difference about DNS or SSL or some such and thus things come up as broken due to intention configuration choices. I'll bet they actually work if you keep clicking..
