This post seems overly dramatic and I fail to see much "in-fighting". Yes, the various RSS specifications have left some important details ambiguous (particularly text vs HTML in various places and the meaning of multiple enclosures).<p>Atom fixes these and I don't see many people fighting about it. Support for both RSS 2 and Atom are widespread.<p>TL:DR if you are publishing use Atom (if you already publish with RSS 2 it probably isn't worth switching), if you are consuming support Atom, RSS 2 and best effort support for whatever else.<p>I have a blog post in draft about vest practices for publishing a feed but really there isn't much trouble here. Really the biggest "problem" is that the fact that it is the term "RSS Feed" makes newcomers not realize that Atom is a well supported format and the recommended one.
