Who had money on Samsung and Red Hat joining forces on next-gen memory software?

Samsung has an interesting history of investment in Linux projects. They threw a lot of money at the enlightenment window manager a while ago in hopes they'd do something cool with it, for example.

Suse would have made a viable contender as well. But yea, Red Hat is very much in the pocket all along.
