Materials science is one of the most exciting fields out there. Many products and solutions assume availability of very basic things.<p>Just one new thing changes expectations for entire categories.<p>Good example is food grade silicone which now covers portions of stuff from the kitchen to kids toys. Some kids toys are all silicone.<p>Lab grown wood w custom properties and shapes would be very useful and if available in large sizes cheaply, probably very popular.<p>I think the future holds materials that are far more advanced—-like programmable blobs of putty that put themselves in any shape, with strength they can adjust and move. Basically, what the T1000 is made of, but less menacing.
