This is one of my pet peeves too!<p>It sounds like we have similar preferences, my perspective is that they basically stopped making usable mice and keyboards 20 years ago, and nearly everything since then (especially via regular retail channels) has stupid gimmicks like extra programmable buttons, wireless, lights, is way too small ("laptop"), flimsy build, etc.<p>One of my favorites is the Microsoft Wheel Mouse Optical:<p><a href="https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-D66-00029-Wheel-Mouse-Optical/dp/B00006B7HB" rel="nofollow">https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-D66-00029-Wheel-Mouse-Optic...</a><p>It does come in USB too, and various colors. Although the model is 20 years old or something, you can still get them occaisionally on Amazon, ebay, etc as new old stock, OEM versions, etc. Whenever I see some, I grab a few to keep me going for the next few years.
