As the Great Salt Lake Dries Up, Utah Faces an ‘Environmental Nuclear Bomb’

Tucked away in the article:
> Of major U.S. cities, Salt Lake has among the lowest per-gallon water rates, according to a 2017 federal report. It also consumes more water for residential use than other desert cities — 96 gallons per person per day last year, compared with 78 in Tucson and 77 in Los Angeles.
I was in Utah a couple of weeks ago, and I was surprised by the relative absence of water use reduction techniques. The hotel I stayed in had a “waterfall”-style shower (it was not particularly fancy, and I did not pick it specifically), and I saw multiple over-watered flowerbeds while walking around (including one that was literally filled with water and spilling onto the sidewalk.) And quite a bit of dust in the air.

At first I thought the headline was hyperbole, but after reading the OP, I think it's accurate. If the cities near the Great Salt Lake don't do something soon, the air they breathe will be laden with poisonous arsenic in the not too distant future.

"the air surrounding Salt Lake City would occasionally turn poisonous. The lake bed contains high levels of arsenic and as more of it becomes exposed, wind storms carry that arsenic into the lungs of nearby residents"

Any safe places that have a somewhat dry climate, if not as dry as Utah?
