Jupyter Notebook is a great tool. I'm using it every day. I'm even building tools around it - to make notebooks sharing with non-coders easy.
Sometimes I found JN hard to use. The biggest pain is installation and package management. It can also have a more modern look. I'm wondering how would JN look like and work if it was developed by Apple (known for great design).
Do you think JN can be improved?
Yes, but you'll have to buy into Apple ecosystem first. Also, installing plugins from any other store other than Apple store would be forbidden. Plus you'll only be able to run your code on Apple silicon devices. Also, 99$/year developer fees would need to be paid upfront.
I'm not convinced that Apple create particularly usable software any more. Have you used iTunes or iCloud lately? Their software has largely all atrophied on the desktop, and the best thing I can say about them is that they have better designers than MS.
