Mixxx, a free and open source DJ software

For anyone interested in combining DJ&#x27;ing and VJ&#x27;ing, I&#x27;m actively working on <a href="http:&#x2F;&#x2F;www.planmixplay.com" rel="nofollow">http:&#x2F;&#x2F;www.planmixplay.com</a> .

this software is phenomenal. watched a YouTube video and was struggling to get Traktor to work with my older DJ controller. a few hours after fumbling with Traktor, I found mixxx and got it working almost immediately!

I hope this is good enough to completely replace VirtualDJ as the de-facto basic &quot;bedroom dj&quot; software used in the last 15 years or so.<p>Will give it a try.

Mixxx is such a legend. It&#x27;s absolutely competitive with the &quot;Big 3&quot; (Serato, Traktor and RB), although it doesn&#x27;t have real time stems separation like VDJ or DJay Pro. Neither do the Big 3, either, although I hear rumors (and pray) that Traktor might bring that in someday in their 4.0 release.<p>Anyway, kudos to Mixxx and the entire dev team. It&#x27;s a breath of fresh air.

virtualDj was atomixMp3 - and was better back then in one major way; there was a large button for mix-now that would fade one track to the next player on click-demand.<p>The way virtualDj does this with the auto-play list in a little window is not as appealing. Maybe someone has made a new skin available to make this an option, I haven&#x27;t delved into it in years now.<p>Definitely something I&#x27;d like to see - when you are doing live events that require cutting songs and instrumentals and such between - it&#x27;s be much better for ease of use to have 2 or 3 large &#x27;decks&#x27; with visible cue points and be able to have autoplay running with a list or switch&#x2F;fade manually to deck 2 or 3 - and then back.<p>I was not able to see if such options might be better with the small screenshots on the features page, but I may give a download and try it out a bit.

I would also like to share you.dj as an alternative. If you want to use controllers with it, you.dj isn&#x27;t free - but it&#x27;s cheaper and without any subscription, which is a ton better than the Pioneer software.

I had not seen Mixxx for quite a few years but good to see it has kept up with the pace. It would be fun to dj out with an old Tux stickered Thinkpad
