Personally I wish they'd just stop with this snap stuff. Just adopt one of the free and open alternatives. Snap tech is open but the store is not. And snap apps were really slow to start last time I tried it.<p>Personally I just want traditional packages so I don't use Ubuntu anymore. But their long history of trying to peddle their own IP (UpStart, Mir, Unity, now snaps) is annoying to me. I guess they're looking for a monetisation model but it's clear that this never works out for them. In this case I guess the goal was for snaps to become a universal standard and them charging for access to the store for commercial software. Why else would they keep the store so closed?<p>But nobody else is even contemplating supporting snaps and it causes people to move away from Ubuntu. Derivative OSes like mint even go to the trouble of removing it. In the end they will have to give in and play ball just like in all the other cases. I think it's just a matter of time before they drop snap for FlatPak or AppImage.
