That question is like asking if anyone has quit TV and telephone pretty much... hah.
Social Media is not a guilty pleasure (like alcohol or candy) for people that need to promote their own business to strangers and reach them online... These days, it's an essential tool for most lines of business...
Especially when a company or individual doesn't have vast sums of money to simply pay a marketing team to promote their business.
If you have a brand, social media enables almost anyone to completely hijack your brand's presence with little recourse until the damage is already done if you don't claim your profile before a squatter does... I don't register everywhere, but I do on everything that is major.
I am by no means addicted, I just post what I think is noteworthy and then get T.F. off of it all.... All of my notifications are turned off regularly for all apps, so that it doesn't draw me back in when I want to be truly offline.
I miss messages all the time from friends who are regular users, and can't explain to them why turning off notifications is a great thing for anyone's mental health.
The thing I get most irked by with social media is how it manipulates people into using and oversharing on it, and into doing anything for the pitiful carrots of views and likes it gives back. I am tired of the revolving door of talk about how smart the algorithms are and how astuded corporate leadership is.
The real truth is that they operate like a casino, where they always manage to win more than everyone else, and most people that use it simply lose, and many lose everything.
I treat it all like a casino though, I don't risk money, I just hang out until I see an opportunity to win in small ways for free. I also have my own web sites, so that they are not in full control. The casinos hate people like me, but they only like people who surrender their money and follow their script, so who wants that kind of friend anyway...?
I understand the ideal of quitting for people that simply don't need to use social media at all though, and I mostly enjoy meeting with and talking to people in real life without the modern Internet's nonsense involved... I hope I find enough business success to make sure that I won't need to do any marketing work at all ever again... But only when that happens can I get rid of social media.
