RedHat is part of IBM. Many of my IBM colleagues had moved 100+ miles from the office when IBM allowed remote work (before Covid). IBM rescinded that remote approval, forcing the engineers to sell their houses and relocate back to the office. The ones who didn’t return were more likely older, resulting in age based attrition. Was that the intent all along? Given it’s IBM and they’ve been accused of age base discrimination in the past, I wouldn’t be surprised that someone could find an email written by some exec hinting at that motive. Wait until RedHat’s employee age creeps up, and I expect these policies will magically change.
