I used to work for UPS, they are honestly a great company if you can keep up physically. Starting a career with them in the summer would probably be a very bad idea though. You need to build up tolerance to hard work in the heat and learn to hydrate. I used to sling packages in feeders that were extremely warm from the sun. Probably the best physical shape of my life after a couple years there. They go through new hires like water through a short pipe.
The upward mobility is a little slow, I started out working part time and the waiting list for full-time work was extremely long. As a union shop, seniority was everything. Who gets offered to go home early: Seniority. Who gets offered extra hours: Seniority. Who gets to take days off: Seniority. But there were no people getting special treatment because they were friends with the boss either.
Air quality was a massive problem in the hubs though. Between the constant air pollution from the airport and diesel trucks, and the gasoline tugs running through the hub, it can really suck if you're in it for 4-8 hours a day. You also had constant dust from boxes and the conveyor belts. If they went fully electric tugs and yard dogs it would have helped so much. Who knows, maybe they have at this point.
