FWIW I’m a senior engineer at this big tech company. I’ve always been pretty confident, but I started this new job 5 or 6 months ago and just can’t get the hang of things.
Things move quick and the domain is new, my confidence is dwindling which is causing me to become a recluse. How can I get out of this bubble and learn effectively without feeling like 300 things are constantly in my working memory?
Half a year is still a pretty small time to fully grasp everything. As you dig into more projects, you should start to understand things better. Expressing this to your manager could help both open the doors for more projects for you to work on that would help you to get a grasp on things and also should help send a signal higher up that there's more that should be done to make development easier to understand
> Things move quick and the domain is new
Stick to the old, the familiar, the known. Take comfort in the fact that you are highly knowledgeable in some areas and build on that. Don't chase the new hotness because it's usually hyped up and you may want to use it because of mere peer pressure.
