Here are my thoughts about intervention.
Drugs like semaglutide are coming on the market and may be the best hope.
Some people succeed with diet and exercise but whenever these have been tested as an intervention they don’t make a big difference for most people in the long term.
A decade ago there was enthusiasm for surgery but I think the long term results of that are not that great either.
There is probably some noxious factor in the environment, which is further subdivided into chemicals (glyphosate, PFAS) none of which have a smoking gun and psychological stress. Every social worker I know is morbidly obese, and both long haul truckers and police officers are badly affected. One of these groups never sleeps in their own beds, the others are at ground zero for social decay.
Geographically obesity correlates to people voting Republican in the US and in time the obesity crisis kicked into high gear during the Reagan administration which set the shape for policy in future administrations of either party.
