"Government-underwritten capitalism is turning us all into paupers"<p>It's interesting to me that people know we are marching toward 1984/BNW and yet they act surprised by the duplicity of markets fueled by risk averse governments. Which is the exact problem with the quote above.<p>Governments are incredibly risk averse and as such cannot underwrite capitalism as they won't actually take on the risk necessary for capitalism to function. As such, and has always been the case, the marriage of government and economy is disastrous in terms of free market functioning. (Not that neocon brits have ever had a functioning non-government led economy - they haven't; it went from slavery to dependence on foreign labor and innovation. They just kept the banks in London.)<p>For the West; the separation of economy from government will be just as crucial to our future as the separation of church and state was to our past.
