The Verge understates the impact of US sophon strategy, designed to prevent export of any chip or chip making technology to China in an effort to suppress Chinese technological development. However, this happens to be the world's single largest market for players in the semiconductor industry, and so the losers are going to be companies in Taiwan and South Korea - who now need to remove that market from their revenues projections, which will be like having to cut your total addressable market in half. The winners will be Chinese domestic manufacturers, which now have a huge market to serve without the competition from leading players that have effectively been barred from doing so. US may also win, by forcing the relocation / location of those Taiwan / South Korea chip manufacturers to the US.
