Since 1980, college tuition price tag has increased by 169%, while wages have increased only 19% (inflation adjusted).<p>At the same time, the internet contains everything you’ll ever be taught in college, sans labs and professors, and the quality of on-campus education has not improved 8x (price tag/wages gain needed to warrant) over its 1980s predecessor. You don’t learn 8x as much or 8x faster. You might be 8x more distracted, if anything.<p>It makes perfect sense. Also, Freakonomics did a great 4-part series this year (circa spring 2022) on this exact topic, and anybody who cares to take a closer look should check it out for expert opinions from deans and economists.
