so your phone is not your phone if the manufacturer can enable or disable features on a whim. So china can compel apple to stop the feature and maybe more which is fine "for following the law" but at the same time if iran does it, then it is "absurd laws designed to crack down of dissent".....
these are the same things happening americans seems to be right on both cases. cool

I was literally waiting for this. This show the dissenters are persistently using the feature. Pressuring Apple to do this isn’t something you do if a problem is just going away because the normal social controls are working… this means they aren’t… which poses the question, how will the dissenters react, will any unmonitored public space become a billboard for counter-propaganda?
Stickers, graffiti scratches, permanent marker scrawls… it’s going to be very hard to lock down, this is turning into an iteration of the prisoner’s dilemma… can they convince enough of the public to snitch promptly and accurately enough that they can work out who scrawled graffiti onto the back of a toilet cubicle? Will they just go full panopticon and start trying to get 100% camera coverage outside of private residences? … Will enough of the public go along with what comes next that this doesn’t keep spiralling?
