And yet I remain unclear about just what it is they think TikTok is going to do. Yes, I'm quite certain they're funneling all of that data to the Chinese Communist Party. Yes, I'm certain they're using it to target propaganda. So?
Get in line. Who isn't holding vast amounts of American data and using it to drive propaganda? What is so scary about the Chinese having it, as compared to Facebook, Google, and the Russians. The Russians don't have an app of their own, but I'm certain they're siphoning off data from everybody else's. For that matter, I suspect China would lose not one iota of access if TikTok were to just vanish.
The Internet is a terrible place for security, especially that kind of vague "we know what kind of stuff you like" security. Why is Warner, a generally sensible guy, buying into the notion that China is uniquely scary on this point? Does being on the Intelligence Committee give him special access, or just more opportunity to be afraid?
