This is from 2019. In March of 2022 Google won the case. <a href="https:&#x2F;&#x2F;www.theverge.com&#x2F;2022&#x2F;3&#x2F;11&#x2F;22973282&#x2F;google-wins-court-battle-genius-song-lyrics-copyright" rel="nofollow">https:&#x2F;&#x2F;www.theverge.com&#x2F;2022&#x2F;3&#x2F;11&#x2F;22973282&#x2F;google-wins-cour...</a><p>Neither owns the copyright, and therefore cannot claim infringement. The irony is that Rap Genius began by publishing lyrics without permission.

Google uses indexed sites to build up their knowledge graph and semantic understanding of concepts occurring in search, both via explicit JSON-LD semantic tags, and their own inferences. Any feature on google that seems to understand that what you just searched for is a song or a recipe or a company or a person or a movie the data came from some page in the index. Which of course includes lyrics.

Nothing will happen to google, they already passed blame. Too bad too. The actual content creators are getting taken out of the loop and google sits there pleading ignorance.

Lyrics data? LMAO. You don&#x27;t own the lyrics, nor do you have some stake over words.
