The rent is too damn high. It is no surprise that sales are down when used cards from Etherium miners are flooding the market but new cards are still priced high.
Unlike previous generations I'm not seeing anything special in terms of new features in the 4000 series that excite me although I'm sure even the most trivial demo from NVIDIA is going to going to require it.
The PC market as a whole isn't helping. I am thinking about building a PC but hesitating because I don't really believe in Intel's vision (fuse off AVX-512 instructions which are good for run-of-the-mill text processing as in your web browse, add a bunch of phoneish low-performance cores because... they've got cell phone envy) but I hear rumors of AMD stability problems (last thing I need is another PC that crashes) and high system prices for AMD machines that don't quite beat Intel in performance.
If CPU's weren't giving me an excuse to drag my feet I might by a new GPU but at these prices I'm likely to keep dragging my feet.
