Amazon is known for experimentation, but I am not a fan of the absolute homogenization of every site on the internet. Whether it be slides, reels or this new 'Inspire', it really seems to me that the suits have just figured out the newest brain hack to get people to spend more time on their apps and are showing it into everything.
I wonder what is the next big thing. TikTok absolutely landed the short scrollable videos format.I remember the founder of Instagram talking on Lex's show about the natural innovation within social media. First it was easy to transmit just text, few bytes, so sites like Twitter and early Facebook got big. Then there was a bit more bandwith, so Instagram and pictures got big, because nobody had to wait more than a second for pictures to load. Then it started to be easy to watch videos, so everybody is now showing TikTok style videos everywhere.
Perhaps Zuck was right? He did not want to capture current trend but dig out the next one? AR seemed to take off with Snapchat, so VR seems like the logical conclusion to follow next.
