Interesting that Starlink went from "we'll only operate in countries that have given us permission" to "we will operate in a manner that best pleases western governments" rather quickly. The earlier pledge of neutrality was based on the belief that Starlink is very vulnerable to attack and makes a good target should it be used as an arm of the "rules based international community" which is a self-anointed group.<p>In the case of Iran, that country probably doesn't have the ability to do much harm to Starlink, but it sends a message to countries who have the ability to Kessler the whole thing out of existence that Starlink will be used as a policy tool of the West.
