Kind of an exploitative piece. Disparity in coaching aside, Hamlin's injury has happened in all sorts of other sports and isn't particularly related to football itself or... uhhhh... racism in general.

Really Scientific American? That’s your observation from all this?
Nothing about CTE, long term physical or mental issues, financial problems players face?
Nothing insightful, Just more race baiting headlines.

As abhorrent as I find the race baiting in this article to be, I am also glad that there is finally some recognition of how U.S. sports are a very thin veneer over the pervasive idea that black people are best suited for entertainment purposes. Now that we are close to bringing the one drop rule back, I can safely say that I, as a black man, do not feel particularly great about being targeted as the ideal actor/athlete/comedian/etc. especially when forced to do so in environments my ancestors were not environmentally prone to inhabiting (c.f. ice hockey so white).
Let the Asians (in all their various forms) and Latinx (a firmly heterogenous bloc according to the white women who tell me how to think) have their turn as entertainers. Let Finns (whatever they are) have hockey. We'll be fine.
