Hi,
as I'm really interested in Migadu as my provider and since i want to trust them with my mails I do check those providers in detail.
Migadu sounds really nice and looks like the provider I would like to use.
But after checking some company data websites I did find some confusing statements concerning the Companies purpose:
If you check for example: https://business-monitor.ch/en/companies/545850-migadu-mail-gmbh
They say (official registered entry):
Die Gesellschaft bezweckt Dienstleistungen im und über das Internet, insbesondere Handel mit physischen und digitalen Produkten sowie Werbung und Marketing....
Translated it stands for:
The purpose of the company is to provide services on and via the Internet, in particular trading in physical and digital products as well as advertising and marketing....
So why is there such a statement within the main purpose of the company?
Within their website they clearly state:
"No Advertising, No Tracking
Everyone in the tech business plays the advertising card at some point. We've played ours already. No ads here ever, not even our own"
But how does that match the official registered company purpose?!
In earlier time their company name was "Advite GmbH" which also had the purpose like it's now with Migadu.
Would be nice to get a feedback from all of you if I am over-paranoid or if you see it also kind of confusing?
You can ask us directly such questions.
When we started, we were unsure how to cover the costs of the free tier which were becoming steep. One of the ideas was to allow internal advertising of paid users towards the free users for their products and services through text banners on incoming messages. We did not like that after all and preferred to drop the free plan all together.
Btw. When you register a company, you want to give it the widest possible scope, to avoid later paperwork. The purpose in the Handelsregister is completely irrelevant to actual operations, as long as it is larger in scope.
Don't listen to what they say...those policies can and will change whenever best suits them...you can go along while they keep your privacy but be prepared to move when that stops.
