Yet the next para mentions "Enlightenment values" - with an Amazon affiliate link to a book on the subject. The blurb for which suggests that you won't learn much history of the Age of Enlightenment ( <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Age_of_Enlightenment" rel="nofollow">https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Age_of_Enlightenment</a> ) from the book.<p>Whether the article's author is right or wrong in his thesis - he's already convinced me that he's writing a fact-free emotional appeal after 1 1/3 paragraphs.<p>I remember the Good Old Days, when Scientific American seemed to actually care about things like facts. :(
