I can’t help but feel like “adding more male elementary school teachers” is a lost cause with how we’ve collectively decided to punish schoolteachers for going into the profession. Anecdotally, I’ve known lots of school teachers and they all have a martyr complex that’s encouraged by greedy and controlling admins. Many approach burnout. Coupling low pay with needing to both educate and act like a daycare worker for needy and demanding parents is not my idea of a rational career choice. So what is the draw other than sacrificing yourself to “better society”? We seem to collectively act like spoiled children in this regard demanding so much and offering so little in return.
