I want to build a social media for programmers and just wanted to know wether people would even want something like that. I was thinking that each user could upload either a text post or an image post and the app could contains sub groups of various topics like AI, webdev, UI/UX etc. each user could also add a programming language flair of some sort and this could also be a nice way for employers to find quality programmers. The app can also have various themes to customise/personalise the look of the app for your device.
It could also have a section with tech and programming news, kinda like HN
What do u guys think of this app?
I'm trying to imagine a "Facebook for programmers" and it doesn't play out well in my mind. The closest thing I use is a selected set of subreddits as a multireddit that has some programming languages and programming topics. Other than that HN has good discussions with posts being semi-related initiators. I'm not interested in any social aspects other than the discussions themselves, though I imagine with repeated discussions with the same people there would be a sense of community which seems about the right amount of socializing for me.
Sure. Launch the mvp and share it on Show HN.
How will it be different from the competition?
Why would I want to go there? For example Blind makes you use your work email which I guess some people think makes it more “legit” knowing it’s all tech ppl while Reddit makes it easy for anyone to participate in a niche topic like AI or even more niche like some specific field within AI. The barrier to entry there is super low.
Isn't what Dev.to already does ?
A social Media for Programmers in my eyes would be GitHub with some kind of a share feed so that everybody can post their Gists or Pictures of their nerdy stuff.
> It could also have a section with tech and programming news, kinda like HN
HN is already a social media for programmers. Github too, reddit, stackoverflow.
blind exists already. your target audience is a bunch of introverts, not sure how that's going to fare. there's like an existential crisis post on blind almost every day. these folks aren't looking for more ways to be insecure and hateful towards society
