I keep on thinking for hours of what decision to take.
Most of them are about "What product I want to create", since there are a lot of opportunities.
With the combination of perfectionism, variety of choice and some uncertainty about the end result, it became impossible to chose a direction.
E.g, I'm a content creator. I'm trying to be good at it. Yes, I want to earn money with it, however, I want to make something decent. That's when perfectionism takes place.
And it's unbearable, endless vicious circle. I just keep thinking: hey, how about making a cool catalogue of UI/UX tips? Or maybe make a PDF? Or maybe stick to long term project, a course or something?
And so on =(
I've recently fixed this problem for myself by making an upcoming project timeline. I don't always stick to it, but giving myself the space to do this THEN that allows my brain to pick one thing first.
One of the rules for my "soon" list is that I try to choose projects/tasks that take 1-4 days. This forces me to make decisions in a context where I see my short-term and long-term projects all in one place.
[1] https://taylor.town/now
You may also need to think about what matters to you. What is your end goal? What impact do you want to make on the world? What is the minimum amount of money you need to be happy? Ask some hard questions and work backwards from there.
If thinking about what you want is too hard, consider making an "unbucket list" (credit to Warren Buffet):
1. write down 25 goals
2. circle the top 5 items
3. the remaining 20 goals are your “avoid-at-all-costs list”
Sometimes talking helps! .. with the walled garden / bindings in mind.
If you doing a PDF, that -if it's good- can and will be distributed amongst. That would reduce users coming to your social app / website frequently to look up your tips.
So, I would first define aims, goals and needs for two personas "you & your needs" and "visitor & his needs" and then rule all ideas out, that going agaist your needs, making compromises with the visitor's needs.
So, it's up to you :) but always with fulfilling your needs & aims first in mind. That should reduce the complexity as quite a lot of interesting ideas just rule out.
E.g. if you need to earn money with that, everything that costs you - OUT! Its against your needs.
I try to reduce things down to binary choices whenever I can - A or B, yes or no.
This works for me because i often get stuck in “thinking of all the possibilities” without progressing beyond that.
at some point it’s easier for me to pick the worst option and remove it, and repeating that process, rather than choosing the best one from the get go.
What do you think? Maybe you’d have better luck eliminating the worst options? you could set time limits for your idea generation time first so you don’t get stuck there either.
