As someone that is not a huge fan of The Design of Everyday Things, I went in to this article expecting substance. Instead, I seem to have just read a rehash of many grievances against Don Norman?
I hate to be calling "logical fallacy," but this is literally saying that the problem with the book is the author. Without giving many examples of where it is bad? Examples of it being inaccurate anywhere? Best I see is the appeal to the slippery slope of allowing users to "design for themselves." But, that is a huge stretch and gives absolutely no charity to the idea.
There is the stylistic criticism that "his insights can feel more like a summary of discrete problems than a unified blueprint for progress." And that is a good start. But, I don't see any exploration or refutation of the these insights. Yes, there is a brief paragraph demonstrating how many topics he bounces between, but then the entire rest of the article is... not about the book, but about the author.
Would work a lot better with the title of "My problem with Don Norman's new book."
