This article made me think of one trend I see in software nowadays is the loss of the file/save/open mechanism. I want to say Apple popularized this. at least Apple was the only company I know of published the HIG which encouraged designers to make files and saving something that isn’t a user concern. The problem with “your data is just there”, you loose control to any number of factors out of the users control.<p>Sometimes I watch friends use phones, tablets, etc. to understand how they use software. Especially my friends who are not software people. And they have devised clever ways to “save” data. But is really sad state we’re in. One thing that caught my eye was people taking screenshots to save digital concert tickets, or using the screen recording feature to save instagram or TikTok videos. The screenshot is easier than dealing with files but that is a UX problem that can be solved.
