A perfect example of why sanctions work short term but not long term. It is economically cheaper to simply import what you need. But if that is no longer possible, because of sanctions, then you are forced to create a local industry instead. It will take time, but with enough effort most countries (with highly skilled engineers) will get there. And the end result will be a massive long term economic loss to the country that introduced the sanctions in the first place. The sanctions introduced by the US will pretty much guarantee that China will become a world class competitor to US chip manufacturing, making the US chip industry even less competitive.
