More Google Assistant shutdowns: Third-party smart displays are dead

It’s amazing to me that Googles reputation and trust as a development platform has been torn to shreds through product cancellations and yet the CEO has never been held responsible.<p>In fact no-one related to Google seems to care and no one seems to think it matters at all. You’d have thought maybe the founders or the board would care, but perhaps all they care about really is the firehose of advertising cash keeps blasting.<p>Google despite making unbelievable cash is facing some serious issues.

Not a fan of Google&#x27;s tactics but this is a somewhat misleading headline - they&#x27;re discontinued and the software won&#x27;t receive further upgrades, so at some point in time they may stop working if the platform moves on.<p>That&#x27;s not &quot;are dead&quot; and &quot;shutdown&quot; in the immediate as the title implies.

Not only that, the Zoom functionality on the Hub Max is broken.<p>My office was looking at using the Hub Max for employees at home. We purchased one and tried to set it up. Followed their instructions and there’s an Android Developer permission that needs to be turned on the Google side. There’s a whole thread with people complaining about the error in Google’s support forum for the product. Everyone saying the same thing: “I bought this to use Zoom and it seems like Google doesn’t care about anything but it’s own video conferencing software on the Hub.”<p>The problem seems to have been around for a couple of months now. I wonder if Zoom should be notified that the Zoom Certified Hardware component isn’t living up to their certification requirements.

My Lenovo Smart Clock changed a few days ago, I asked me to add a reminder for something (these would show up on my phone), instead of complying like usual, it wanted me to register my voice first. Great, more biometric data for them. Why do I even worry, they have hundreds of my voice samples.<p>It also changed its response from &quot;Alright, your alarm has been set for 9AM&quot; to &quot;9AM, set.&quot;.

I dont understand why google keeps doing this!
