A GPU crisis could be one reason why age of giant AI models is ending

Nvidia has quite a moat. Even during a shortage with huge demand, its like other players dont exist.<p>Intel Gaudi, Cerebras, AMD&#x2F;Intel GPUs, Tenstorrent, Cloud ASICs from AWS, GCP, Tencent Alibaba, ... and probably many more I am not aware of, not counting the &quot;dead&quot; startup designs like the Centaur hybrid AI CPUs, or ones I have a bad impression of (Graphcore).

I wish they would rephrase &quot;age of giant AI models is ending.&quot; If I took them literally, it would mean that GPT 4 is going away because of the cost of GPUs. They meant to say that few people will spend as much money as OpenAI did to train an LLM AI.
