This is a very exciting development, but I'm curious about what side effects coming out of such a state would have, especially in a species that doesn't naturally enter a torpor state. It mentioned the mice took about 2 hours to recover, but no mention for the rats, and it's unclear what exactly "recover" means.<p>I'd also be curious what effect this has on aging. Like if a mouse with a normal 12-18 month lifespan is kept in this state for 6 months, will that extend its life by 30-50% or will it still die around the same time? I'm not sure how I'd feel about hibernating for long periods if I knew I was never going to get that time back.
